A 2024 study from the University of California, Berkeley sparked concern among women worldwide. The study found traces of heavy metals in several major tampon brands. Feelings of worry, confusion, and frustration are completely understandable which is why we at DeoDoc want to be completely transparent with our customers.Β Β
What did the Berkeley study show?
Researchers at UC Berkeley analyzed tampons from various brands and found trace amounts of heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, and arsenic. While the study has not yet undergone full review by regulatory authorities and did not assess toxicity levels or absorption rates, its findings have raised valid and important questions around ingredient transparency and product safety.
We test our tampons for heavy metals
Our tampons are made from 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton. GOTS is the Global Organic Textile Standard and ensures the safety of our tampons. As part of this certification, our tampons have already been tested for the presence of heavy metals and they fall well within safe limits.
At DeoDoc, we have always stood for greater transparency when it comes to menstrual products. For years, weβve challenged the global giants dominating the market with tampons made of plastic and synthetic fibers. Thatβs why we fully welcome scientific scrutiny of tampons because women deserve to know exactly what theyβre putting into their bodies.
A regulatory system that hasnβt kept up
Today, there are no legal requirements to disclose whatβs inside a tampon. Nor is there any obligation to share test results for substances like heavy metals, pesticides, or chemicals. This is deeply concerning especially considering tampons are inserted into the body, often for several hours at a time, and several days each month.
We demand more from the industry β not less
The Berkeley study highlights the urgent need for more research into tampons β a category, like so many areas of womenβs health, that has long been underregulated and overlooked. At DeoDoc, we are driven by exactly this mission: to challenge the global giants and outdated policies, to take womenβs questions seriously, and to demand medical-grade standards in intimate care.
Because we donβt want another generation to grow up not knowing what theyβre putting into their body every month. Every woman deserves full transparency, real choice, and safe, evidence-based intimate care.
